Eosinophil 42 cells/µL in your blood test results

You received your blood test result with a Eosinophil value of 42 cells/µL. This analysis helps you to check if your Eosinophil value is within normal range.

Your Eosinophil value of 42 cells/µL is way too low. A good Eosinophil count is usually between 100 and 500 cells/µL.

Increase your Eosinophil count by 58 cells/µL to be within normal range.

In children, eosinophil levels vary with age.

Causes

A low eosinophil level, or eosinopenia may mean a person is intoxicated or that they have too much cortisol in their body. Cortisol, or hydrocortisone is a steroidal hormone released during times of stress. It also has a role in a person’s metabolism, inflammation, blood glucose level and the balance of salt and water. A disease such as Cushing’s syndrome keeps cortisol levels unnaturally high. Eosinophils also correspond to the time of day. The levels tend to be lowest first thing in the morning and rise during the day. Even a healthy person can have an eosinophil count of zero.

Treatment & Medication

If the doctor knows that their patient does not have Cushing’s syndrome or abuse alcohol, low eosinophil levels aren’t too concerning unless all of the white blood cell levels are low. The way to treat a persistently low eosinophil count is to treat the condition or disease that is causing it.

Useful Information

Eosinophils are white blood cells that get their name because they can be easily stained by eosin, a type of red dye. Like other white blood cells, eosinophils are made in the bone marrow and part of the immune system. They protect the body from attack from pathogens and helps the body fight pathogens and allergens through their role in inflammation.
